Hello, my name is Tazebew “Taz” Wagnew.
I was born 1992 in one of the villages in the Simien Mountains National Park and have spent my whole life inthis beautiful area. My village is near Gich called Ambaras, one of the mountain camps.
Family tradition
When I was 12 years old and I completed my elementary school I moved to Debark, now home to the National Park head office.
I was very lucky that I moved to Debark as it gave me a great opportunity to go to the local secondary school.
Many of the mountain children don’t get this chance and I am forever thankful to my grand father Negash Wereta. He also played a great role for the Simien Mountains to be established and registered as World Heritage Site by UNESCO.
registered guide
After I graduated from high school the regional bureau of the tourism commission was holding guiding recruitment and I passed the entrance exam and began studying to be a mountain guide. As an experienced guide I have taken a lot of training about the Simien Mountains, including:
- Birds
- Mammals
- Plants
- Customer care
- Mountaineering
- Trekking arrangement
- Ethiopian history
- Guiding technique
- First Aid
